What foods are ok for my dog to eat at Thanksgiving dinner?
Thanksgiving is coming soon! Some foods are ok For your dog To have a taste of, But some foods are off limits!
It’s important to be super careful during holiday times to make sure our dogs don’t eat something that could be toxic for them. Especially when family and friends are around, our pups can easily end up sick after eating something they shouldn’t have.
Your Aunt Emma may not know, for example, that turkey bones are dangerous for dogs because they are brittle and can splinter. According to Pet Health Network, “Bones are sharp and can result in an esophageal foreign body, gastrointestinal upset, or rarely, a foreign body obstruction!.” If you can’t resist those pleading eyes, you can give your furry friend a small amount of fully cooked, boneless, skinless, unseasoned turkey.
The following is a list of food that are safe, but only give in moderation. You don’t want your pup to get an upset stomach- which is always a concern with new foods or too much of anything.
According to Dr. Mark Stevens at Stevens Animal Hospital, you can give small amounts of the below foods- as long as they are unseasoned:
Sweet potatoes
Raw or cooked veggies like green beans, carrots, cucumbers, cauliflower and corn
Cooked eggs
Apples (no seeds)
Pumpkin (unsweetened and spice-free)
Dr. Stevens goes on to say that the below foods are absolutely OFF LIMITS:
Milk
Grapes
Raisins
Xylitol (artificial sweetener)
Nuts
Yeast Dough
Garlic
Onions
Salty snacks and foods
Alcohol
Chocolate
Macadamia nuts
So be extra careful during the holidays. You don’t want to be one of the people sitting at the Emergency Vet when you should be enjoying dinner!
